Government Says Families must pay
It has been announced that the DETR is satisfied it has achieved
all its aims and objectives on the two Government sponsored surveys
to the wreck of The Gaul and the families will have to pay for a
requested manned dive themselves.
We have received the following statement:-
BBC Ceefax Yorkshire/Lincs 20th September 2002
Government will not pay for third dive.
"The Government has said that the families of the crew of a
ship which mysteriously sank 27 years ago have to pay for a planned
man dive themselves.
The relatives of those lost on the Gaul want a third independent
survey of the wreck to find out what happened but the DTER said
that the dive met all of its observations and objectives in the
two surveys it sponsored.
The Hull based trawler sank in 1974 off the coast of Norway in the
Barents Sea with the loss of 36 lives."
More on this development as we get it.
